We Have Clothes at Home #1
Shani pulls a vintage, textured outfit out of minimalist SSENSE styling
Hello beautiful internet creatures — we’re introducing a new short-form style jacking series! We Have Clothes at Home features outfit inspiration, taking inspiration from a look we love and making it our own with items we already have. Coming in hot, from yours truly’s closet…
The Look
I’m not too proud to admit it: SSENSE has fun styling (I wish I had a hotter take, but alas). If there’s an item you’re having trouble incorporating into an outfit, I highly recommend perusing their site to see how a similar item is styled as a lily pad for creative ideas.
Back to this styling. I really love this look: the neutral tones, the floppy, organic shape of the tote, complete with the sturdy ballet flat that somehow manages not to be too precious. No notes.
Sticky Point
It’s a bit more minimalist than my personal style leanings. And being the maximalist that I am, my closet is lacking in the plain t-shirt department since simplicity is not my forte.
Pivot to Personal
To make this feel a bit more me, I wanted some good friction, while incorporating a vintage piece. I found that the sultrier combo of a snakeskin miniskirt and tube top, contrasted with a frilly petticoat, hit my personal style spot. I finished the look with my Black grandpa cookout sandals for comfort. Thinking ahead and being realistic about how long the walk to and from the subway would be? Who is she?!

Voila! A breezy and surprisingly comfortable outfit for a very hot and humid day. Because, trust, I am SWEATING this summer.
